About this part

Front stabiliser link 20420FL030 for the left hand side of the Subaru Forester SK from 2018, the XV GT from 2017, the Impreza GT hatchback from 2019, the Legacy VII from 2019 and the Outback BT from 2019, on the Subaru global platform.

The link is the short bar with a ball joint at each end that ties the anti roll bar to the lower control arm. On this platform the two ends are not identical: the ball studs sit at different angles so the bar can reach the arm without binding through the full travel. That is also why left and right are separate numbers and why a bar that clunks over low speed bumps is usually the link rather than the bar itself.

The failure starts as a dry ball joint. The boot splits, water and grit get in, the grease washes out, and the play that follows is heard before it is felt through the wheel. Check it with the car on its wheels and a helper rocking the body sideways: any click at the joint is the link. Replace both sides together, because the second one is always the same age and usually the next one to go.

Fit with the suspension at ride height so the ball studs are not preloaded at neutral, and hold the stud with a hex key while tightening the nut. Boots and nuts included, 12 month warranty.
