Rear brake wheel cylinder 44100-1HD3B, 19.05 mm bore, for the Nissan Micra IV (K13), Note (E12), Almera and Versa (N17) and Sunny, and for the Datsun GO and Renault Pulse and Scala built on the same platform. One casting serves both sides, so the same unit fits left and right.

The cylinder sits inside the drum and pushes the shoes out when pressure arrives. It fails from the outside in: brake dust and road salt get past a perished dust boot, the bore corrodes behind the piston, and the seal starts weeping. The first symptom is usually a damp patch on the back plate rather than a pedal that sinks, because the leak is slow until the seal lip is cut.

Left alone it does two things. Fluid reaching the shoes makes them grab and then glaze, so the brake pulls to one side and the drum scores. And the fluid level drops until air gets into the circuit, at which point the pedal goes long and the car fails its inspection. Replace both sides at once even if only one is weeping, because the other has seen the same mileage and the same dust.

Fit with new shoes if the old ones are contaminated, bleed the circuit properly, and adjust the shoes up to the drum before the first drive. Every unit is leak tested at working pressure and the bore is honed, 12 month warranty.
