About this part

Rear drum brake wheel cylinder S49K-26-610A for Mazda Bongo and E-Series on the SR2, SD1 and SL chassis, E2000 and E2200 diesel plus diesel 4WD, 1988 to 2004. Bore 7/8 inch (22.2 mm), fitted diameter 34 mm, M10 x 1.0 inlet thread, grey cast iron body. One cylinder fits both rear wheels, so a single part number covers left and right.

The housing is cast in high strength grey cast iron with dense wall section, then the bore is honed for roundness and low roughness so the pistons travel evenly and the cups seal against full brake pressure. Pistons are hard anodised, the rubber cups and dust boots are oil resistant EPDM, and the outer body is electrophoretic coated to stop rust during long storage.

Fitting notes: work on one side at a time, plug the brake line, clean the backing plate, and check the drum for scoring and the shoe lining for contamination before refitting. Bleed the circuit from the furthest wheel and top up with fresh DOT4. Replace wheel cylinders in pairs when the bore shows pitting or the dust boot is split.

Signs of a failed rear wheel cylinder are a damp or oily brake drum, a low pedal that sinks when held, uneven rear braking, fluid loss with no visible leak at the master cylinder, and a handbrake that no longer holds on a slope.

Every unit is pressure tested before packing and carries a 12 month warranty against manufacturing defects.
