Fuel injector 0280158046, the Bosch EV-14-EK, for the Renault 1.2 16V D4F petrol engine in the Clio II, III and IV, the Modus and Grand Modus, the Twingo II and the Kangoo II, for the Dacia Logan, Logan II, Sandero and Sandero II, and for the Proton Savvy that used the same engine.

The injector is a solenoid valve with a matched nozzle. A 12 ohm coil lifts the pintle off its seat for a few milliseconds at a time, and the shape of the spray cone together with the flow rate decides whether the fuel lands on the back of the inlet valve or on the port wall. The published figure for this unit is 77.8 g per minute static at 3 bar on n-heptane. Fit a set that does not match and the engine will trim one cylinder against the others until the long term fuel trim runs out of range, which shows up as a rough idle, a lean code on one bank and poor cold starting rather than an obvious misfire.

These engines were also sold as LPG and Hi-Flex variants, and the injectors on those run hotter and dirtier. If one cylinder has gone lean, move the injector to another cylinder first and watch whether the fault follows. If it does, the injector is the cause; if it stays, look at the coil and the plug.

Before fitting, check resistance across the two pins, lubricate the new O-rings with clean engine oil and never with grease or silicone, seat the injector in the rail first and then into the head, and make sure the retaining clip is engaged. Reusing old O-rings is the usual cause of a fuel smell and a hard start after the job. Supplied with new upper and lower O-rings, twelve month warranty.
