In auto-parts export, packaging kills margins when the wrong dimension slips through. A 2 mm miscalculation on an inner-box footprint means an outer carton that loads 96 pieces instead of the quoted 100. Multiply that across a container and you have just given away one full pallet of contribution margin.

Mandatory fields on every draft

Our system requires each of these to be filled before a design draft can even be submitted for approval:

• Length Width Height (in centimetres, no imperial fallback, no "TBD")
• Material type (corrugated grade / paperboard grammage / laminate spec)
• Surface finish —matte / glossy / spot UV / foil / emboss
• Inner-box size —matched to the part footprint
• Master carton size —validated against container loading
• Gross weight —for freight quotation accuracy

An incomplete draft simply cannot be submitted. The system will not let it pass to the designer. No exceptions, no "we'll fill it in later" —because later is exactly when a mistake reaches the print floor.

The Supplier Inner-Box Dimensions table

We also maintain a dedicated Supplier Inner-Box Dimensions table. When a new part arrives from a factory, its packaging footprint is already known and pre-matched to the outer colorbox before design even starts.

The result:

• Fewer returned proofs —designers begin with correct constraints, not guesses.
• Faster time-to-print —dielines validate against reality on the first try.
• Containers that load exactly the way they were quoted —no last-minute stack recalculations at the loading dock.

1. Freight quotes that hold —no surprise volumetric adjustments.
2. Container fill rates that match projections —cost per unit predictable.
