Buying Auto Connectors by OE number

An automotive connector is identified by its housing number, not by the vehicle it was fitted on. The same four-pin plug turns up on a Volkswagen Golf, a Skoda Octavia and a Seat Ibiza because all three used the same loom end, and it is catalogued under different OE prefixes depending on which brand the buyer orders against. Search by model and you get a housing that looks right and does not latch.

2,711 references are listed under this category. The bulk are body and sensor connectors: 1J0973724 four-pin for VW, Audi, Skoda and Seat looms, 1J0 972 722 four-pin used on seat heaters, fuel tank switches and tail lights, 30520-PWA-003 for Honda Civic VII, 90980-11028 four-way for Toyota and Lexus oxygen sensors, 1-967616-1 three-pin for throttle position sensors on GM and Delphi looms, and 8E0 971 934 for the LPG converter circuit on Audi and VW. Battery isolator switches SW-CCM8 and SW-CCM10 and five-pin relay sockets sit in the same category because they sell to the same electrical buyers.

A connector is supplied in one of two forms and the price difference is large enough that the two are never interchangeable in a quotation. Housing only means the plastic shell and nothing else: terminals, seals and wire are ordered separately. A pigtail is the shell with a length of harness already crimped and sealed, ready to splice into the vehicle loom. Most repair shops want the pigtail; most harness builders want the bare housing and crimp their own terminals.

The shell is the cheap part and it is rarely what fails. Terminals corrode, the retention tang flattens after a few mating cycles, and the seal hardens until water reaches the pin. A housing quoted without terminals is therefore only half a part: 0090-525 and the rest of that family ship as complete repair connectors with wire, while the bare shells in the 1J0 range need terminals specified separately.

To confirm a connector, four dimensions settle it: pin count, keyway position, latch type and whether the housing is sealed. Two plugs with identical pin counts will still refuse to mate if the keyway is rotated or the latch sits on the wrong face. A photograph of the connector face square-on, plus one of the latch, is usually faster than any catalogue lookup, particularly on Japanese looms where the number is moulded on a face that is hidden once the connector is plugged in.

Frequently asked questions

Should I order the housing only or the version with wire?

Both are available. Housing only suits buyers who crimp their own terminals and have the tooling; the version with wire is a repair pigtail that splices into the existing loom and needs no terminal tooling. Tell us which you want per reference — they are quoted separately and are not substitutable.

How do I identify a connector when the number is unreadable?

Send two photographs: the connector face square-on so the pin layout and keyway are visible, and the latch from the side. Pin count, keyway position, latch type and seal design together identify the housing. This is often faster than a catalogue lookup on Japanese looms, where the number is moulded on a face that is hidden once plugged in.

Do you supply terminals and seals separately?

Yes. Terminal part numbers, seals and cavity plugs can be quoted against a housing reference. If you only have the housing number, send a photograph of the old terminal and we will match by tab width, wire gauge range and retention style.

Are the connectors sealed or unsealed?

Both types are listed and the listing states which. Sealed housings carry a separate wire seal and are required anywhere the connector sees water, splash or engine-bay washdown. Unsealed housings are cheaper and are the correct choice inside the cabin or behind a sealed trim panel.

Can you supply both halves of a connector pair?

In most families yes. Send the reference and state whether you need the male half, the female half, or the mated pair. On some body connectors only one half is produced as a service part, and we will say so rather than substitute a different family.

Do you also supply battery isolator switches and relay sockets?

Yes. The category includes master battery isolator switches such as SW-CCM8 with a detachable key and SW-CCM10 with an M10 terminal, plus five-pin relay sockets for 12V and 24V. These are quoted on the same terms as connectors and consolidate in the same carton.
